WE'RE ELECTRIFYING

Samir, Jaguar Programme Leader

At JLR, the transition to electrification is integral to our Reimagine strategy. But our transformation extends beyond our vehicles; it encompasses a culture shift, continuous training and meticulous detail to ensure we are curating the ultimate electric experience for our clients.

M SAMIR SHAIKH

Samir certainly knows his way around our luxury vehicles. After university, he joined JLR in 2014, securing his first engineering job in vehicle structures, working his way through exterior trim and doors and closures, before starting his current role in interior trim in March 2025.

“I’ve worked across all commodities in body engineering ‑ the different parts and systems that you can see, touch and experience ‑ this is the last one I need to conquer! I’m an integrator; I ensure inputs from experts, suppliers, finance and manufacturing are considered while delivering a vehicle programme. I’m responsible for the cockpit and safety elements, plus HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning). I see vehicles progress from concept through to physically being in our clients’ hands which I love.

“In my new role, I'm helping develop the vehicle’s cockpit. One of the key points of focus is the insulation and the NVH (Noise, Vibration, and Harshness) performance. We haven't got vibrations and noise from an engine, so we need to consider noise even more strictly and isolate any noise coming from the environment to achieve the serenity of a luxury drive experience. This is a key consideration in the interior to give clients the best comfort, security and privacy they can really ask for. We have to do this whilst keeping the vehicle weight at the forefronts of our mind to allow us to deliver on the vehicle range and efficiency. It's not just about batteries or motors ‑ there's so much more complexity in delivering an electric vehicle. We’re really enhancing the strong characteristics of electrification and showing the potential of EVs.”

"

Most people progress in one commodity [category of parts] or move around in their experienced components, progressing to become specialists. I like understanding the different technologies and reasons why we do certain things on a range of parts of a vehicle, which pushed me to take this route. It’s been great for personal growth and made me very all‑rounded!

- Samir, Jaguar Programme Leader

Samir has been working on our new all‑electric Jaguar vehicles; “We know everyone’s looking ‑ that adds excitement and motivates us to deliver on the design visions. When reviewing the vehicle in isolation in the design studio, we don’t get feedback from the environment on how much the proportions and designs stand out. I can't wait to see it driving past and appearing like something out of this world, because it truly is a unique design and a copy of nothing."

The development of his colleagues has been a "passion project" since his first day. “In a previous team, a colleague thought they were at the end of their career. I motivated them, changed their mindset and showed them they still had plenty of charge left in the tank. I helped them get a promotion, and they've been really motivated ever since. That was such a proud moment for me.

The diversity across JLR, whether that’s the skill sets, backgrounds or environments people come from, really gives us a great strength in our future. It's clear JLR takes DE&I really seriously which is amazing to see.”
