WE'RE ELECTRIFYING
Hema, Operational Projects Consultant
At JLR, the transition to electrification is integral to our Reimagine strategy. But our transformation extends beyond our vehicles; it encompasses a culture shift, continuous training and meticulous detail to ensure we are curating the ultimate electric experience for our clients.
HEMA MISTRY
Hema is an Employee Relations and Operational Projects Consultant at our Halewood site. She coordinates many employee engagement activities such as catering, product experience, work wear and the Manufacturing People Transformation work stream.
“I love working with people and making sure everyone loves coming to work. We spend a lot of time in work, and so really we probably spend more time with our colleagues than we do with our families at home. Ultimately, the work I do helps improve the employee journey because happy people make better cars.
"To support our electrification transformation journey at Halewood, I support making we've got the right services and facilities on site for our workforce, and that we've got enough colleagues supporting them.”
One of Hema’s biggest projects is the site’s catering strategy. “We have just over 2,000 production associates in Halewood – getting all those people fed and watered in 20‑minute breaktimes is quite a challenge!”
Alongside her day job, Hema sits on Halewood’s Inclusion Council as the site lead for the Hindu Network, organising events including the site's Diwali celebration. “I love sharing my culture with my colleagues here on site. I work closely with our employee networks and support them with organising their events.
“When I first started at Halewood 12 years ago, there were far fewer Asian people here than there are now – and that is the same for all minority groups. It is far more diverse now, which is fantastic. Before I worked here, I'd never seen cultural festivals or events like Diwali or Holi celebrated in a manufacturing environment. Now, we celebrate Moon festival, Diwali, Pride, International Women’s Day and carols at Christmas – to name just a few events. We're giving everybody a voice and offering colleagues different experiences through the events we deliver.
“I’m a henna artist too so I love it when employees want to get involved. I really enjoy seeing them with the henna tattoos, putting on outfits, trying samosas and sweet treats like mithai ‑ and generally trying things they wouldn’t normally."
